6 Blue

TERM 3 UPDATE

Term 3 has begun under Learn from Home conditions. Please head over to the "Remote Learning" section of the LPPS website to stay up to date on what is happening.

TERM 2 UPDATE

Throughout term 2, 6 Blue is learning about how Australia became a nation through federation in 1901. To support this, students are visiting our nation's capital and experiencing democracy in action. Stay tuned to see the photos from our trip!

Winter PSSA is now in full swing with many students participating in the available team sports. Please remember to write "PSSA" on any lunch orders made on a Friday.

WELCOME TO 6 BLUE!

In 6 Blue, students are encouraged to be independent, self-motivated learners who strive to achieve their personal best. With the help of technology, students are learning to become future-focused learners who are equipped with the skills they will need in the 21st Century.

MEET THE TEACHER MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I would like to start off by introducing myself. I am Kathryn Hennig, the classroom teacher for 6 Blue this year. Our class has started off with a bang! Already we are using technology daily to enhance our learning and develop new skills and confidence. Each student in 6 Blue has the exclusive use of a school laptop for their learning and to complete their work on. Students are using the Microsoft Class Notebook program to complete set tasks in class across most subjects. The students have access to this from ANYWHERE as it has an online component, so ask your children to log in from home and show you what they have been learning!

Absences

Daily attendance at school is vitally important, however, if your child if away from school, please call the office or send in a note explaining why they were away on their first day back at school after their absence. It is an important legal requirement that every single absence from school is satisfactorily explained.

Homework

Formal homework will be given weekly and shall continue throughout the year. A spelling and maths practice homework sheet will be given to students every Monday and should be completed throughout the week and returned on Friday. Completing homework helps children to establish good study habits for the future, aimed at developing self-confidence, resilience and responsibility. All students have access to ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Literacy Planet’ which is again being funded by the school. These are both excellent programs and will assist children to develop their literacy and numeracy skills at their own individual pace. All students are encouraged to engage in these tasks at home, if internet access is available.

Weekly Events

Each week there are a number of routine activities taking place within our class that your child should be prepared for.

Library: While 6 Blue has no formal library lesson each week in term 1, we will be using the library facilities to borrow books for independent reading. Each student should come prepared with a library bag to borrow a book of their choice that they can engage with both at home and school.

Sport: Both school sport and PSSA occur on Fridays immediately after recess. No matter which type of sport your child participates in, they need to come to school on Fridays wearing appropriate shoes, have a hat and a drink bottle for water.

Crunch & Sip: Students are given a short break every morning at 10 am to participate in Crunch & Sip. This is a vital opportunity for students to develop healthy eating habits and enjoy a quick brain break. Please ensure your child brings a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable and a bottle of water each day so they can participate.

Sun Safety: In order to ensure student safety when outdoors, please send your child to school each day with a hat. Students will not be allowed in unshaded areas during recess, lunch or sport if they do not have a hat to wear.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s academic progress or social issues that may arise, please contact me to make an appointment for a meeting at a mutually suitable time.

Regards,

Mrs Hennig
